HEADACHES

Hello everyone..!!! In this 1st post of "ESSE-INSPECTION", I am going to talk about headaches. Now how many of you are the sufferers of these attacks, I presume these headaches do not spare anybody. No matter what, we can't stop ourselves completely from being victims of headaches. So why be ignorant victims, if we can be informed victims. Therefore I will put some information about headaches into your heads.

There are two types of headaches, primary and secondary headaches.

SECONDARY HEADACHESA secondary headache is a symptom of an underlying disease that can activate the pain-sensitive nerves of the head. There are more than 150 causes of secondary headaches such as fractures, flu, sinuses, allergies, blood clot within the brain, hypertension, dental problems, concussion, dehydration, ear infection, encephalitis, glaucoma, hangovers, ice-cream headaches, high BP, and COVID-19. More often than not, they can be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics.

PRIMARY HEADACHESWhen it comes to primary headaches there are three types. They are:
  • MIGRAINES
  • CLUSTERS
  • TENSION HEADACHES

MIGRAINESMigraines are recurring headaches. Migraines usually have 4 stages. They are :
  1. PRODROME
  2. AURA
  3. RESOLUTION
  4. HEADACHE(PAIN)
  • PRODROME: This stage lasts for 1 to 2 days in duration. A person may feel tired, irritable, and increased or reduced appetite during this stage.
  • AURA: It's a 30-minute stage. Sound or light sensitivity may be present. Tingling and Irritability may also occur. There are also possibilities for speech disorders to occur.
  • RESOLUTION: Lasts up to a day. The symptoms are fatigue and lack of concentration of daily routine tasks.
  • HEADACHE: May last till 72hrs. There is only one dominant symptom with severe throbbing pain in the head.
The impact of migraines on quality of life far outweighs that of tension headaches. People suffering from migraine attacks may face difficulty to work, socialize, or even seek treatment. More than half of those who suffer from migraines endure these headaches once or twice a month for periods of up to three days.

CLUSTERS: Cluster headaches are rare kinds of headaches causing severe irritation pain behind or around the eye. Occurs frequently at night time for 15 mins to 1hr. They are 5 times more common in men than in women. Symptoms are redness of eyes, sensitivity to light, lacrimation. Experts say that these are linked to the disruption of the body's biological clock.

Tension headache: This type of headache is very common. It feels like a tight band squeezed tightly around the head which is called "HELMET EFFECT". While the physical reasons are stress, fatigue, poor body posture, and improper head position, there is no proper biological cause that can be linked to this type of headache. The pain intensity increases as the day go on. Frequently stretching your shoulders can reduce the occurrence of this type of headache. Pain killers can be used to treat tension headaches.

A primary headache isn't a symptom of an underlying disease. Unfortunately, there is no proper biological explanation as to what causes these primary headaches as these headaches have distinct patterns like unusual duration or pain associated with a certain activity.
  • Many scientists and doctors think these obscure health issues may be caused by overactivity of (or) problems with pain-sensitive structures in your head called "NOCICEPTORS".
  • Chemical activity in your brain, the nerves or blood vessels surrounding your skull, or the muscles of your head and neck (or some combination of these factors) can play a role in primary headaches. Some people may also carry genes that make them more likely to develop such headaches.
Finally, I am going to end this post by giving you the most routine, common message that is, do some proper exercise daily, eat the right food, and make sure that you are using your heads properly, rather than messing up with them can improve your resistance towards headaches.
