Let's dive in...
India's national education policy was first established in 1968 and then redesigned in 1986, which was slightly modified in 1992. This means that the same education policy has been in place for the last 34 years.
Better finally, it happened...!!! We have changed policy on education in which the Ministry of Human Resources Development has from now on changed to the Ministry of Education.
Better finally, it happened...!!! We have changed policy on education in which the Ministry of Human Resources Development has from now on changed to the Ministry of Education.
What's in it for Students:
1. The current curriculum of 10 + 2 (Schooling + Intermediate/Diploma/plus 1 and 2) will be changed to 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 (Foundation Schooling for ages 3-8 + Middle Schooling for ages 8-11 + Preparatory Schooling for ages 11-14 + Secondary Schooling for ages 14-18).
2. There is also a three-language policy being introduced. The teaching medium shall be in the mother tongue or in the regional language up to the 5th grade. After that, the central government made it clear that no language is mandatory and that the choice of language is entirely in the hands of students or their parents. There is also a possibility to study higher studies in the mother tongue. To facilitate this Institute for Translation and Interpretation(IITI) will be established.
3. E-content, i.e. online content, will also be available in 8 different Indian languages other than Hindi and English.
4.Training in various other fields, such as coding, the arts, music, and sports, is also of equal importance. Vocational training, professional courses, internships, and virtual laboratories (laboratories accessed through software) will also be provided from the 6th grade, i.e. from the beginning of middle school.
5. One of the main aspects of the policy is multidisciplinary higher education, which means that any student from any stream can study any subject he/she is interested in. For example, a science student can study history. And a medical student can learn to code. This paves the way to eliminate the difference between science and the arts. The credit system is the same for any subject he/she studies.
6. There is a possibility of multiple entries and exits in higher education(4yrs) where a student can quit after studying for 1/2/3 yrs depending on his / her choice and can re-enter by making use of the credits he/she has previously earned, which are stored in "DIGITAL LOCKERS." The degrees will be given as follows:

The degrees will be given as follows:
7. Exams will be conducted for grades 3, 5, 8, 10, 12 only. Even these tests are carried out in a modular model to test core competencies (communication, creative thinking, skills, and knowledge, etc.). In this type of model, the examinations will be conducted twice a year and each subject will be divided into two levels.
8. Only one entrance test will be carried out by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for students to enter any university, reducing the burden of writing different entrance exams for different universities.

Other features:
- Instead of teachers preparing report cards for students in both public and private schools, there will be only one assessment center "PARAKH" that stands for performance assessment, review, and analysis of knowledge for holistic development (Intellectual, Mental, Physical, Emotional and Social ability) that encourages students to self-assess themselves.
- There will be no UGC (current national enemy for students, especially in the final year) or AICTE. These are replaced by a single governing body, HECI (Higher Education Commission of India). Common norms for all types of institutions, whether private or public.
- Gender inclusion fund to ensure equal quality of education for all girls and transgender students. There are also a number of additional measures taken to support girls and transgender students.
- Like the national science foundation in America, the national research foundation in India will also be established.
- National institutes of Pali, Prakrit(ancient languages from the times of Buddha), and Persian will also be established.
- All universities, affiliated colleges, and recognized universities are transformed by grading into autonomous bodies. Yes, yes! Not only students but also colleges will be graded. As a result, all colleges that operate without proper facilities and infrastructure can be closed because they can not qualify as autonomous institutions.
- Universalization of Indian education to encourage foreign students to study in our country. Allowing foreign institutes to be established in our country and foreign faculty to teach in our country. This also works vice-versa.
- The national technological forum to be set up for better utilization of technology. A dedicated unit for creating digital infrastructure, digital content will be set up in ministry.
Teacher hiring: At last, a new way of hiring teachers will be adapted.
- By 2030, a four-year integrated B.Ed will become mandatory.
- Also, the teacher eligibility test(TET) will also be changed according to the new schooling of 5+3+3+4.
- TET scores or NTA(national testing agency) exam scores in corresponding subjects will be considered.
- NTA will conduct aptitude tests and exams for all the subjects.
- As per the new policy, those who qualify TET will have to appear for the interview and show their knowledge of the local language.
- All the skills of a person like speaking multiple languages, coding, arts, sports, and teaching disabled students will be tested as they are all required from 6th grade.
- Teachers who are already hired will be expected to participate in at least 50hrs of continuous professional development(CPD) every year.
These are some of the important features of the new national education policy that I think it is important to know and understand. The aim of this policy is to achieve a gross enrollment ratio of 50 percent, which is currently 26.3 percent. It is also intended to use 6 % of GDP for education, which at present is only 4.4%.
Conclusion: Yes, there are various debates and discussions going on about the pros and cons of this policy but let's hope that it'll be better policy and brings out the best of every student in the country.
Thank you..!!!
